State aid and public procurement are legal subjects deriving from the law of the European Union or "EU", and both have a very significant impact on public sector development and regeneration projects, large and small. This is not to say that projects should not proceed because they contain elements of State aid or public procurement. All that is required is forethought, especially in the early stages of planning, through which potential difficulties can be identified and prevented from becoming very serious problems later.
