Charles is a corporate partner and heads the public markets team.  He joined Cobbetts in 2003 having spent over ten years at the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he acted for a diverse range of public and private companies, often on multi-jurisdictional cross border transactions.

Charles sits on the firm’s international committee and is responsible for its development in fast growing economies such as India, Russia and Africa.  He has acted on a number of high profile deals, including the £76m tripartite merger of Scarborough Minerals Plc with Australian listed Buka Minerals Limited and Danae Resources and its readmission to the main market, advised mining giant Highland Gold on its $110m placing on AIM and Timan Oil & Gas plc on its pre-IPO fundraising and subsequent £123m Admission to AIM.

Charles was appointed Honorary Consul for the Midlands for Norway in 2008.
