Cobbetts LLP has advised Leeds-based laser eye surgery and treatment specialist, Ultralase, on its acquisition of the London Centre for Refractive Surgery (LCRS).

The acquisition is Ultralase’s fourth during 2008, and follows the successful entry into the Irish laser eye treatment market with the purchase of the AllClear clinic in Belfast, The Waterford Eye Clinic in Waterford and the establishment of a new clinic in Cork.

The London Centre for Refractive Surgery was the UK’s first clinic totally dedicated to surgically treating refractive problems, and now adds to Ultralase’s 27 existing clinics as part of the group’s ambitious expansion strategy.  Ultralase continues to invest in the refractive surgery sector despite challenging economic conditions due to the strength of its business model and a passion for delivering a broad portfolio of the very best vision correction solutions to customers. 

Ultralase chief executive, Tony Veverka, said of the firm’s most recent acquisition: “We are delighted to be bringing the skill, experience, and expertise of Ultralase to Harley Street.  The acquisition of LCRS allows us to not only offer laser vision correction, but also intra-ocular lenses (IOLs) for those unsuitable for laser surgery, and treatments for presbyopia, the age-related need for reading glasses.  The new clinic will be welcome news to thousands of people in the London area who are looking for a wider range of treatment options.”

The Leeds office of law firm, Cobbetts LLP, advised Ultralase’s management team on all four of the company’s recent transactions.
