Lawyers forge links with Indian counterparts
Sep 18 2008

Partners from Cobbetts met representatives of around 20 Indian law firms earlier this month as part of an inward trade mission organised and hosted by the International Division of The Law Society.

The events, held in Leeds, London and Birmingham, were designed to establish closer links with the Indian legal sector and highlight opportunities to inward investors.

The Indian legal sector is a thriving area and, only last year, India usurped France to become the third largest UK investor

Roger Hawes, business relations partner, commented: "India, along with Brazil, China & Russia (the so called B.R.I C countries with tremendous economic growth potential) is a key country in the development of our international strategy.

“The opportunity to meet representatives from a range of Indian law firms was extremely useful and the contacts made will enable us to better service clients who are investing and doing business in India.”

The visiting law firms from all the major Indian cities - Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai - were keen to know more about Cobbetts and were especially interested in the Public Markets practice which has developed an international reputation for advising businesses raising capital on AIM.

Partners were also able to promote the services of the German team, which has members qualified as lawyers in both England and Germany, and their worldwide network of legal contacts.
