| | Cobbetts advises on Renewable Energy Investment Apr 6 2009 |
| | Cobbetts has advised renewable energy companies, Namibia Agriculture and Renewables S.A and Sierra Leone Agriculture S.A, on investments from the Honourable Angad Paul, chief executive of London-based global manufacturing group, Caparo PLC.
Both Namibia Agriculture and Renewables S.A and Sierra Leone Agriculture S.A are exploring a number of commercial opportunities which exist in the respective countries and are aiming to secure further investment from third parties whose business interests are aligned with those of the directors. The companies will use the funding received from Angad Paul to further develop their Jatropha biodiesel and palm oil projects in Namibia and Sierra Leone, respectively, which can be used by Caparo PLC to off-set the company’s carbon footprint. It is hoped by Angad Paul that these investments will be the first of many that he and Caparo PLC will make in the sector and region. Charles Bond and Kate DaSilva of Cobbetts led the deal, with assistance from Ian Illersic in Cobbetts’ banking team and Van Den Bulke Advocats in Luxembourg, which provided legal advice in relation to the incorporation of the two holding companies in Luxembourg.
Charles Bond said: "This latest round of investment will enable both companies to gear up for the commencement of production and exportation of biodiesel. Renewable and green energy are very much in vogue following the weakening of the commodities markets and we hope that this will be one of many projects that Cobbetts is involved with in the sector in near future.
“Cobbetts has a strong renewables and cleantech offering across the firm and we expect there will be similar deals to be done as sectoral activity continues to increase.”
